In today’s world, the demand for energy is continuously increasing and the resources of our planet are already under intense pressure. The majority of the total energy consumption of the world still comes from fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels produces billions of tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) every year that contributes to global warming causing adverse effects that are devastating and irreversible. In arctic regions glaciers are melting, leading to potential flooding of those areas. In regions south of the equator, many locations are drying out due to the increase in temperature levels, causing major negative effects on agriculture and leading to resource scarcity.
